Writing: 4.5Story/Plot: 4Depth/Detail: 4Enjoyment: 4I'm both a big Riyria honk, as well as a big MJS fan, so naturally I was quite excited to pre-order both books (which came with a ton of really nice free swag) and get to reading the history behind one of the better duos in fantasy. The Crown Tower...

I loved this book. I couldn't put it down. I'm not joking. I don't say that often. I consider it a vast improvement over the entire series that it prequels. Gwen stole the show, and I'm glad she did. I've always wanted to know more about her. Royce was a complete enigma until nearly the end. E...

Excellent writing. Top notch. A definite page turner for those who are new to the Riyria series and a real treat to those who have loved Hadrian and Royce from the first book published. I loved the pace of the plot right up to the last page. Each character had a personality all their own. The world ...

The Crown Tower is the first book in the Riyria Chronicles, a prequel to the Riyria Revelations trilogy. I haven’t read the latter so I struggled as to what to read first: order of publication or chronologically? The author made it clear it could be read either way so I decided to start chronologica...

This is one of those books that left me divided. Objectively, the writing is good, smooth and professional, the story absorbing, the world building – vaguely resembling medieval Europe – convincing, and the tension high and consistent. There is not a boring moment. But subjectively, the story didn’t...

This was, once again, a very fun story and while I may not rate it quite as high as I did Riyria Revelations, I am really looking forward to reading on, as The Rose and the Thorn continues the adventures of Royce and Hadrian and the beginning of Riyria. You can read my full review here:http://fantasy...

As with the other books Sullivan has written, this one pulls you in for an amazing ride. Entertaining, enjoyable, fantastic. Top notch author with great ideas and a gift for writing. Put this one on your list of authors you can count on to bring only the very best each and every time.

A team, a partnership, working together...the Elves have word for it in the world of these books -- they call it "Riyria". If you've read Michael J. Sullivan's excellent Riyria Revelations series already, you'll know that Hadrian Blackwater and Royce Melborn weren't always the dynamic duo we know an...

Not as engaging as The Riyria Revelations books. Seems to me like a drawn-out short story.
