The Cuckoo's Calling by Robert Galbraith introduces us to Cormoran Strike, who was a military police investigator until he was injured in Afghanistan. He has just broken up with his fiance and the his new foray into the opening of his own detective agency isn't going so swell. Both Cormoran and th...
The only reason I started this series (I have #2 on audio) is because I thought Causal Vacancy was such a good novel. I can understand why Rowling wanted to keep her authorship of this series a secret. I mean, there is the whole genre thing, it isn't a novel of society the same way Vacancy is - t...
Cormoran Strike. Former soldier. Son of a rockstar. Amputee. Private Detective. Ex-fiance. Homeless man. It is safe to say that Strike's past is as complicated as the case that has just been handed to him. Supermodel Lula Landry jumped out of her apartment balcony months ago. The press went nuts in ...
J.K Rowling isn’t an author I’d say I adore. I did, like most people my age, adore Harry Potter growing up, and the novels did play a large part in my childhood. Appropriately, The Deathly Hallows was published the summer before I left for university; so while I do have a place in my heart for Rowli...
BLUF: More writing than action. Good story, good writing, but unsatisfying ending. The Cuckoo’s Calling revolves around recently heartbroken Cormoran Strike. Down on his luck, and his funds, he is less than thrilled when the temp agency sends him a new, wannabe P.I. receptionist, Robin Ellacot. Lucky...
3.5 stars...When I first started listening to the audio book I wasn't sure if I was going to like it or not. It seemed like alot of incessant talking and I found myself drifting off and daydreaming about other things but after the first few discs I think the paced picked up a little bit and I got i...
Part 1 drew me in. Part 2 was boring. Part 3 was exciting. Part 4 made me pay more attention to it than college basketball. Part 5 was meh. The best part of the book was the interaction between Strike and Robin. I don't think she's going to last long with Matthew.
I listened to this an audiobook, and it was quite good. It dragged at times because of the excessive descriptions, but it found it's mystery pace eventually, and I was hooked. I will definitely check out the next book in the series! Really enjoyed Cormoran and Robin!
When Lula, a troubled model, falls to her death from a balcony, it is assumed that she has committed suicide. But her brother has his doubts and calls in private investigator Cormoran Strike. Strike, is a war veteran, wounded both physically and psychologically, and his life is in disarray. The mor...
This book is in serious need of being trimmed by at least 100 pages and re-writen to add some action. As it stands it would have benefited from being titled "The day to day minutiae of Commoran Strike, a failure of a Private Eye" for there is nothing to suggest in this book that it is a "page turner...
