I just couldn't get into this. The language was so overtly cavalier and coarse. I know this is categorized as young adult but the sexual innuendos and dirty writing makes me shiver in disapproval. Bear in mind, it's not the book just my own preference for a cleaner version of the book.

Sadly, after all that I found Forsaken/The Demon Trapper's Daughter to be very "meh". There are several interesting ideas at play here (demons, levels, the Guild/hunter rivalry), but flat execution and a very immature/often quite brainless protagonist hamper the story. What also killed my interest w...

Riley is the only female apprentice Demon Trapper and was only accepted because her father is one of the best. There is still a lot of resentment amongst the other Trappers who don't think a female should be allowed to join them but Riley is determined to prove she can be just as good as they are. ...

I liked this book. The world building was interesting and I liked the different types of demons. However there were certain things that kept me back from increasing my rating. They're mainly small points but isn't it always the little things that annoy you? 1) In the acknowledgements, the author...

Not your average teen novel. It got them all, fresh cut of gore and a bit of teenage drama. Riley is as bad ass as Keri Arthur's Riley Jenson but with more heartbreak and sublime strength within her coolness factor. Good start to a series.

Another YA debut that I suppose is not a debut in the strictest sense of the word. It's more of a debut into the genre. Anyway, those details aside, I felt that Forsaken read more as an urban fantasy than a YA novel. Some of the tropes that are normally employed in YA (though, I suppose to colour th...

Forsaken sounded like a fantastic read. I love demons, demon hunters *points at the demon-fighting Winchester in the banner* and all things supernatural, and so I couldn’t wait to get stuck into this book. Unfortunately, I finished it feeling a bit let down. Don’t get me wrong, I did enjoy the novel...

It took me 9/10ths of forever to get through this book. I simply could not get involved. I wanted to like it, really, because I hate not liking first books by authors who seem like nice people working hard, but I just COULD NOT GET INTERESTED.To me, it was just another dystopian, vampire/demon/assor...

"Forsaken" is centred around a rare thing, an original idea. The world Jana Oliver creates is fresh, plausible and intriguing. Her main character is engaging, her writing skillfully moves the reader through the compleities of plot and place with an admirable ability to achieve focus with a light tou...

I give it 4.5 - really enjoyed reading it. Good start to a series (not a standalone, at least the next one is out this Fall, not a year from now). Not a cliffhanger per se, but a lot left unresolved.Basically, due to skyrocketing oil/energy costs, society has collapsed, cities have gone bankrupt. An...
