Amazing non-fiction book. There aren't enough words to describe how good this book is, you have to check it out for yourself.I am super excited to see Leonardo Dicaprio and Martin Scorcese take this book to the silver screen. I hope they do Erik Larson's work justice.

Hey, kids. I'm waaay behind in my reviews, as well as in keeping up with all of your reviews and my favorite blogs and websites. But I'm catching up slowly. Here's a two-fer-one. Talk about extreme malpractice. Herman Webster Mudgett, a.k.a. Dr. Henry Howard Holmes, earned his medical degree in 188...

This was a fascinating read. Surprisingly enough, it had little to do with H.H. Holmes' aspect of the book. I knew of the World's Fair prior to reading this, but it was just the basics of it. Delving further into the makings of it was beyond interesting, and seemed doomed from the start, really. T...

The Devil and the White City seemed like a book that would be right up my alley, as both major focuses - The Chicago World's Fair and the murder spree of H. H. Holmes - are things I've been independently interested in for years. But I've stayed away before now because I just don't enjoy even good no...

This book was fascinating on a lot of different levels. My favorite part was learning about the architects and how the Fair ultimately was built (re: power plays, boards, force of personality and wills, etc.) Also I loved hearing about the Ferris Wheel and all the different inventions and new things...

The story of the World's Columbian Exposition (the 1893 Chicago World's Fair) and the events surrounding it are fascinating. It is these events and the shocking details surrounding H.H. Holmes that likely lead so many people to love this book. It is the sort of story many novelist would have loved t...

The Devil in the White City is a fascinating look at the Chicago Worlds Fair. My issue is that I wish the author had decided instead to focus on one of the aspects of the story. The book constantly bounces between the development and building of the Worlds Fair and a serial killer who operated nea...

The Devil in the White City is a very good novel set around the World’s Columbian Exposition of 1893. The long winded descriptions of the construction hurdles that plagued the fair were somewhat tedious, at times, and yet remained ultimately fascinating. Sprinkle in a smooth con man, who moonlights ...

Several years ago I tried to read this book and ended up putting it down for various reasons. I kept it though and picked it up on what turned into a nine hour flight. I finished it in one sitting (obviously, there wasn't much else to do). I greatly enjoyed it, but I really like history.Taking place...

This should be right up my alley and I was excited this was the book club read this month. However, with club tomorrow and I'm only 100 pages into, well-I'm not going to finish. I found the book slow, extremely detailed, and doesn't provided much to get me into or keep into the book. I'm might have ...
