The Devil in the White City: by Erik Larson, published in 2002, is an historical work centered on the Chicago World’s Fair of 1893. The author focuses on two men and their accomplishments. The first person is Daniel Burnham, he is the chief architect and paved the way for architectural aesthetics of modern cities. Burnham's story is well known because through the perseverance he carried with him while creating his vision. The second person would later be known as America's first well known serial killer going by the name of, Dr. H. H. Holmes, His acts of evil and destruction led to a chain of disasters and stuck the metropolitan city.

This book breaks the original book down by having in depth chapter by chapter reviews. The summary follows the structure of the book, which is in chronological order, switching off between the two figures central to the story.
