In 1879 the frontier is slowly being tamed by the farmer and the rancher. But echoes of the wild old days of cattle drives, barroom brawls, and shoot-outs still haunt the dusty border towns of Kansas, Wyoming, and Colorado. And one windy day, in the small town of Brookville, Kansas, three cold-blooded killings mark the beginning of a new wave of violence. Civil War veteran Sam Dood, had settled peacefully on a ranch with his wife and family and had hoped to put the violence of his past behind him until it came stalking him with a hired assassin's bullet.
