The Dragon and the Pearl by Jeannie Lin Book 2 of Tang Dynasty THE MOST BEAUTIFUL COURTESAN OF THEM ALL... Former Emperor’s consort Ling Suyin is renowned for her beauty; the ultimate seductress. Now she lives quietly alone—until the most ruthless warlord in the region comes and steals her awa...
Probably the best full length book in the series. Li Tao and Ling Suyin were a great couple and great individual characters (both got a raw deal character development wise in the first book). The plotline was filled with action and political intrigue. Best part, you don't have to read the first book...
For the lover of the steamy sex scene. I must admit, I was not prepared for the fact that the majority of the story's suspense was sexual. It's just that, as a non-habitual romance reader, it's hard for me to grasp a relationship so deeply rooted in the physical. Nor can I imagine by even a light-...
I've heard wonderful things about this series, and I've been meaning to read it since forever. For some reason I started out with the second one, don't ask me why, not even I know...I've read a lot of HR, but never any in this particular setting so, hurrah for a non-eurocentric romance with non-whit...
It was fun to go back to the Tang Dynasty and the complicated web of politics, assassins, and a crumbling empire. I look forward to reading the next installment.
I kind of have mixed emotions about this book. I have no idea how to start this review. How about, I skipped all the erotic parts and tried to enjoy the actual story! (It's quite erotic that I can probably consider it a twin to Fifty Shades. Just, this book has a better protagonist..)When I read the...
02Main characters: Ling SuyinLi TaoWhat I Liked: The author has created a wonderful world, this is so much better then the other books that I've read by her, it doesn't even compare! I loved reading about China in the Tang dynasty, and then researching it on my own. Chinese traditions and history a...
3.5 stars. The reason this isn't a 4 star rating is because I wasn't crazy about one plot twist: I didn't like that the heroine turned out to be a virgin, ultimately. A woman doesn't have to be a virgin to be vulnerable. Otherwise, I thought this was a very deep and emotionally fulfilling story.
So much about this book took me by surprised. I hated Li Tao in Butterfly Swords and really wanted to see him skewered and dead, but this book completely turned that around for me. I was also looking forward to finally reading a book where the heroine wasn't a virgin, but darn if Lin didn't rip that...
