I need to sleep on this one before I review it....Even though the title gave away how this was going to end, I still found myself wanting one more week, one more birtday, one more summer, one more book for Mary and Will. Such a beautiful relationship between mother and son. I loved that although t...
A book written by a son to celebrate his mother, her remarkable life and humanitarian contributions, and the books they loved and shared together. The kind of book which makes me want to read more, read the books he recommended, read books about books, and then read some more. "Mom taught me that yo...
This book was well written and I really enjoyed going through the bibliography at the end and being able to add books to my "to read" shelf. I also found both Will and Mary Anne's thoughts on things I had read to be accurate and insightful. But I didn't really like it. Part of it is because I tend...
The author and his mom have much more highbrow reading tastes then me. It was interesting to read their perspectives on books and life. There were a few spoilers on some books though.
Full review in progressI thoroughly enjoyed this novel. It incorporated several things in my life. First, I lost my father to cancer. Before his passing, he had participated in a study at USC-Norris Center. While I stayed with family, I had frequent talks with him (not pertaining books, my Dad wasn'...
This non-fiction book chronicles the last days of a mother who is dying of pancreatic cancer.I enjoyed reading about the different books that the mother and son read during the mother's last days. I was very impressed that they managed to read so many books in such a short amount of time. I also e...
This was bordering on the cheesy for me. The discussions or ideas might be interesting for some people, but I find them trite. I just read The Year of Magical Thinking which was a GREAT book. It had the effect of making a book like this seem mediocre to me.
Review first published on my blog: http://memoriesfrombooks.blogspot.com/2012/12/the-end-of-your-life-book-club.htmlThe End of Your Life Book Club is a story of two years - from the time Will Schwalbe's mother Mary Ann is diagnosed with pancreatic cancer to her death. It is a journey towards an end ...
I am putting this one aside. I hear great things, but there simply is not enough of a plot for me to stay interested right now. Moving on to other things.
It was a heart-felt book to read, and perhaps it is a fitting tribute to the author's mom that she has a son whose love for reading and books led him to write one. I have to admit I am a tad cynical when siblings or children or people write books with 'illness of the month' tagged onto it, (Tuesday...
