The story is on how Jack left the Army. It really not a strong enough set up. Jack seems not be able to build on relationship that he started, that made him the loner that he is, and seems to remove a lot of trouble of writing story that have new relationship started and ended within 500 pages.
Okay, my romance background ruined a big chunk of the suspense of this book for me - but not all of it. Child writes a nice, spare thriller. The characters felt (mostly) real, and I completely cheered at the end.
