The first of two books featuring a burned man with a mysterious, plot-twisting identity I happened to read simultaneously in some weird kismet-y thing. I never saw the film, and this was so much better than anyone led me to believe that I must now a) re-evaluate everything I've ever been told; and b...

I really liked the movie, but just couldn't get into the book. Maybe it's because the book is structured differently than the movie? Or maybe I'm the only Canadian who doesn't adore Ondaatje? (I think that's almost as sacreligious as saying that one doesn't care for Atwood!)

i loved this book. it's so beautifully written. I haven't seen the movie yet so i dont know if it stayed faithfull to the book. you'll sympathize with all the characters and their stories.

What can I say, the perfect book. I love the way the story meanders. The ending is heartbreaking. Beautiful.

The author, in his third person persona, keeps quite a distance from his characters, and the reader is held at arm’s length. Kip, for example is clearly a very positive c...

The English Patient by Michael Ondaatje My rating: 1 of 5 stars I had to read this book for a class at the university. I was lucky that I wasn't quizzed on it, because I have no idea what happened. I think I read about 100 pages, but I couldn't recall any of it. My mind was asleep. So I have no ide...

For the first time ever, I liked the movie better than the book. Go figure.
