There is little doubt we are living in a rapidly changing world. This century will be defined by change at a greater pace than previously known as global power shifts from ~West to ~East; from the developed to the developing world.
Governments, companies and people are concerned about the future and increasingly realise dealing with change is difficult. The speed of change is causing fragmentation for organisations, communities and individuals. The future will be dominated by global competitions that for the first time will be played out on a level playing field, as technology and globalisation continue to make the world a smaller place.
The idea of a job for life is a thing of the past, as companies ‘restructure’, ‘reorganise’ and ‘downsize’. The social contract between employer and employee is broken, as organisations cope with the effects of competition. The traditional security provided by large companies and the public sector is disappearing. The scale and scope of change highlights the need to find solutions to grow the economy, create jobs and generate future wealth.
To this end, the topics covered in the book focus on the challenges we face and the solutions we need. They address a range of issues that include business, capitalism, economy, education, entrepreneurship, globalisation, innovation, jobs, leadership, skills, social media and technology.
