This book is a brazen Tolkien ripoff right down the line of characters and plot elements. Further, it is not written with any art, grace, or mastery. Its one saving point is that it does include a few interesting and sympathetic characters.

I'd forgotten so much of this book. It's full of detail and the back story to the world still seems unbelievably complicated.

I finished it! I feel like I should win some kind of award or something. According to Wikipedia, this series (14 books) has 11,961 pages and takes a total of 461 hours and 25 minutes to listen to on audiobook. Or a little over 19 days straight. It's kind of mind-blowing to think about that. Ho...

I was all set to give this monstrosity three stars because despite the purple prose and boring story there was a sense of nostalgia involved in listening this book. I liked the narrators, mostly, and applaud them for getting through it with a straight face. Although, how would I know how many hours ...

The late Mr. Jordan was a master storyteller. The world he built in the Wheel of Time series is exquisite, and his characters feel like people you've known all your life. And I thought I hated fantasy...joke's on me.

This starts the Wheel of Time series. Doorstopper length, maps, a prologue, glossary at the end, told in omniscient with a pseudo Medieval European setting. Epic high fantasy ho! Mentally I was counting off in the first chapter all the parallels to Lord of the Rings: Rand as Frodo, Mat as Merry, P...

This is one of the best fantasy novels I have ever read. Eye of the World is the first novel out I believe 14 or 15 books of The Wheels of Time series and this is definitely a series I am hoping to continue on the series in the near time future. The book has so much elements and the building up is r...

See my review of this book, and many more, at Tales from the Great East Road. “The Wheel of Time turns and Ages come and go, leaving memories that become legend. Legend fades to myth, and even myth is long forgotten when the Age that gave it birth returns again.” Rand al’Thor is just the son of a me...

Well, I am slowly coming to the end of my back log of books that I really don't want to read again but should add because I have read them once, and since I like writing commentaries on all of the books that I have 'read' (and I put that in inverted commas because some of them I have not strictly re...

Just finished re-reading this one. I originally read these back when there were only 4 that had been released, and I just absolutely adored the world and the characters. I kept with the series until about book 10 or so and then when 800-900 pages only managed to move the story along about a week b...
