Definitely my favorite book of the trilogy. Fitz finally starts growing up a bit, and the story and language seemed like they were more nuanced and mature. I did start to groan a bit when there were 100 pages left and it seemed like all of the major plot points had been wrapped up. [Mar. 2011]

Somewhat disappointing end to this trilogy. I suppose I knew as I got deeper into the 2nd book (Royal Assassin) that the magical elements would have to get resolved in some way, and I suppose I should have known that they would have to take a more prominent place in the story. It sort of "jumped th...

Unfortunately, I didn't like it half as much as I did the previous books. I didn't even like the ending; I expected something more, especially about Red Ships. And I wanted something more for Fitz than what he got for all his efforts. But is was not just the ending that made ita bummer for me: I fel...

The ending almost made me cry. The last line is the epitome of perfection.

If I just rated it on her writing style, it would get 4-5 stars, but Fitz's endless slog to Tradeford and then to find Verity was painful. There were some really interesting points that deserved more attention, such as the "old blood" and the episode at Tradeford. But no, Fitz had to get back to the...

You know, I may have read a book where the author puts the hero through more traumas and trials than Hobb puts FitzChivalry through in this series... but I really can't think of one offhand. The guy really just does not get a break! This installment takes more of the classic fantasy quest format, as ...

The torture never ends! Every time Fitz picks himself up he gets knocked down, punched in the face, and then trampeled by wild horses for his trouble.

What a great conclusion!I had read the first two books, and didn't really care for Fitz (he was that horrible combination of compulsive and whiny-I kept wishing someone would slap him). But Fitz grew up! He acts responsible! (Well, comparatively so at least) and all sorts of questions are answered!...
