I loved this book, especially the intertwining of the past and present. Can't wait to read the rest of her books!

What an enjoyable read! The chapters shift between several different time periods, which was a bit hard to follow at first. But once I had the characters figured out, it wasn't difficult to switch between eras. At the center of the story is Nell, who as a child was abandoned on a ship to Australia. ...

I read a great interview with Daniel Mendelsohn on The Browser a couple of weeks ago on the subject of 'Updating the Classics.' A quote from that interview was immediately brought to mind when reading The Forgotten Garden:A.S. Byatt's Possession and The Children's Book cover much of the same ground ...

Beautiful...I found myself thinking about it when I had to stop reading and do something else, wondering how things happened exactly, and how they might end. A haunting and somehow magical book. The fairy tales alone are worth reading the book!

Didn't like the characters' beliefs that only children make a family complete. Oddly plotted...was occasionally difficult to follow. Nell annoyed me when she dumped her loving adoptive family and fiance. Not one of my favorites.

Sorry, Kate Morton, but it was just too painful for me to enjoy.I love the premise of the story, ie. the discovery of one's past. I love the setting up of the story, ie. a beloved granddaughter continuing her deceased grandmother's wish. I usually loved it when a story alternated between the prese...
