The Four Agreements is a self-helping guidebook written by a Mexican author named Don Miguel Angel Ruiz.
Ruiz was born in 1952 in rural parts of Mexico and as a youngest child of thirteen children. Nevertheless, he attended medical school, became a surgeon and for several years Ruiz practiced medicine with his brothers. What changed him to become a writer and so-called ‘shaman’ is a near-fatal accident. Not long after his accident, Ruiz returned to his mother to learn and to get bigger and better moral understanding and thus apprenticed himself as shaman of Toltec culture. What was bad about Toltec culture is that there were no written records whatsoever of their belief and their teachings and thanks to a combination of traditional wisdom and modern insights, Ruiz managed to write Toltec teachings and that is how a book named The Four Agreements came to life.
The Four Agreements book was published back in 1997 and was a bestselling book in New York Times for more than seven years. The book was sold in more than 5.2 million copies just around the United States and so far it has been translated into thirty-eight languages.
