Weird and intriguing. Not something I would normally read, but loved it anyway!

Protaganist is a burn victim who meets a very unusual woman who helps him through his recovery. Somewhat male oriented (who else would write about a woman who carves gargoyles in the nude?), but it clips along.

I didn't think I was going to like this book. But they give away books for free at library, and it caught my attention one day so I checked it out. Such a good story, one I will not tell you all about since there are many good reviewers on this site, and I'm not one of them. The only thing that b...

I give up!I started listening to this on audiobook several weeks ago. I faithfully plugged along, sometimes listening to one disc a day, sometimes going a week without listening to it at all. This was a very interesting novel. It's about a man who gets severly burned in a car accident. The story details his recovery and his relationship with an unusual woman named Marianne Engel. He meets her while in the hospital and discovers that she is a psychiatric patient. She proceeds to tell him ...

I originally wasn’t interested in this book – the jacket text didn’t intrigue me. But a coworker of mine recommended it, and I found myself drawn into it within the first few pages. It’s definitely my favorite book of the year so far. I loved the story, but also the stories within the story – Marian...

This is the first time, for me, that the hype has paid off. The book (maybe the story, but maybe not) drags. It is not long winded, but it is also not something that one can pick up and read quickly or for a short amount of time. As a speedy reader, I found this to be frustrating, but the frustratio...
