A little slow in the beginning, but it hooked me right away. I really enjoyed the growth Elisa showed through the book. Eagerly starting the second one.
I'm still kind of reeling from the ending. It seemed like everything happened so fast at the conclusion. The language and writing of this book was beautiful, and it was a unique story. While I didn't feel it was *as* amazing as some reviewers seemed to think, I did think it was executed very well. T...
Pros:* fun heroine* made me think of Spanish royalty* interesting conceptCons:* could not get the image of a troll doll out of my head* started with a bang, ended with a whimperOn one hand, I really want to laud Rae Carson for not insisting her YA novel be a trilogy. However, I really feel like each...
This story could have gone a predictable route: plain, dumpy girl married handsome Prince who is heroic and brave, etc, etc and is soon won over by her inner beauty and kindness, etc, etc, etc. They live happily ever after. Etc, etc...this story was not like that. The Prince, while handsome is not ex...
The Girl of Fire and Thorns tells the story of Elisa – Princess Lucero-Elisa de Riqueza of Orovalle – who’s been “special” since she was born. Not every child born is gifted with a Godstone, after all. So Elisa is Chosen, and meant to DO GREAT THINGS. But at sixteen, Elisa doesn’t feel so special. S...
When I first picked up The Girl of Fire and Thorns it looked like it would be one of those fantasies where there is an arranged marriage and the two characters grow to love each other while the rest of the story plays out. Sort of like Daughter of Flames by Zoe Marriott, but this book was not that s...
Basically, I loved this book. The characters were great, especially the heroine, and the plot was nicely twisty. I would have rated it higher if I had been happier with the writing style. I hear that the sequel is just as good, but more gracefully written, and I can't wait to read it!
Not for me. I don't read fantasy as a rule - and this is written on so average a level that it never grabbed me. The main character doesn't hold much promise after 7 chapters. I'm going back to my dystopia. Seeya.
I will preface that I was a little worried about this book when I started. It seemed like there would be some religious intonations and sometimes that can get a bit preachy and be a total turn off for me. I will say that wasn’t the case at all. The Godstone is a part of the story but Elisa is the...
I really enjoyed this! A couple elements might have made it somewhat less than a 5 star for me, but...they weren't enough. One of my favorite books that I've read lately. It was WONDERFUL!
