Virginia is a victim of family incest, starting at age thirteen. As a result, she is driven towards relationships with controlling, abusive men whom she seeks for love. Despite her extreme beauty and intelligence, she subjects herself to aberrant sexual behavior with both men and women. Emotionally volatile, with no core sense of self, she bounces from one relationship to another, seeking answers to her behavior. In desperately seeking to escape intense feelings of loneliness, she repeatedly chooses anyone who offers love. A child in a woman's body, her trust is continually abused, and she is ultimately rejected. The result is rage and fantasies of murder and mutilation towards the abusers. Each of the men who use her are brutally murdered. As she flees across the country, believing herself to be the killer, she seeks psychological help repeatedly. The first person to understand her condition completely uses his knowledge to practically enslave her. He is the psychiatrist she turned to for help after the first murder. His fate is the same as the others. She does finally find a trustworthy psychologist, but even he is the object of her attempts at seduction. The final courtroom drama is a shocking ending for this lost soul. This psychological thriller is an accurate depiction of the Borderline Personality Disorder, in all it's manifestations. The book also provides a means for therapeutic help within the context of a murder mystery. An appendix offers further information. Dr. Hattem is a clinical psychologist with thirty years experience.
