Chevalier drew the characters and set the scene nicely, and fleshed out the tale with satisfying historical and psychological detail. I found the plot a bit formulaic and predictable, but my attention was held to the end.

Probably more like 4.5 stars.Loved it, and I'm now off to hunt up a DVD of the movie which stars the wonderful Colin Firth as Vermeer.
