This is most difficult to be concise when a book is almost 800 pages long and to boot is the winner of the 2014 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction but I will do my best to be short and sweet. “The Goldfinch is a sweeping odyssey of loss and obsession where people do strange things in the aftermath of traged...
I really enjoyed this novel until almost the end. It has a Dickensian thing going on: lots of detail, lots of eccentric characters; and even though it takes forever to describe all the details of almost everything, it's a pleasantly immersive experience. And for all the discussions of art and the sa...
If you read one book this year make it this one. It has power that no book should be able to possess. That's all I'm saying for now. And I apologize for not being very active on here of late.
Great book from page one. Started off quite fast, then slowed to a nice, steady pace for the remainder. Theo, Hobie and Boris will be characters I'll never forget. If you can tolerate the longer ones, The Goldfinch is well worth your time.
We don’t get to choose our own hearts. We can’t make ourselves want what’s good for us and what’s good for other people. We don’t get to choose the people we are. I am literally cringing at my screen writing this review because this book has fricking won the Pulitzer. It’s like throwing the penny th...

5+STARSIt's 3AM. I've finished reading this book around midnight and i'm a bit awestruck and still thinking about it. This is more a reaction, not really a review and I won't go into details here. I must say that, before reading The Goldfinch, I didn't know much about the story, I didn't read any r...
New Review! Today's Doubleday UK meme prompt was to select a book I'd take to a desert island. http://tinyurl.com/lujt4hz It's got the drama! It's got the pathos! It's got the characters you care enough about the throttle! It's got a linear foot on my bookshelf because I liked it 4 stars' worth...
The Goldfinch is a big book, both in physical size and ambition. What initially seems like a straightforward story of a teenage boy dealing with the death of his mother turns into an epic coming of age story that teases the us, the reader, with where our emotional investment should reside. What am I...
