The Heart Goes Last, Margaret Atwood, narrators, Cassandra Campbell, Mark DeakinsThe premise of the book seems to be that the world has descended into a state of turmoil; all hell has broken loose on the ground with joblessness, poverty, starvation, and lawlessness growing in many cities. However, t...

It's on the NYT Best Seller list with the following summary: "In a future not that different from our world, a couple living in a town where residents both serve as prisoners and staff a prison wrestle with monogamy." Really? That's what you took from the book? Yeah, they wrestle with monogamy,...

3.5 stars.Margaret Atwood is a genius. Awesome concept. Beautifully mastered science fiction with sociology experimentation and the realistic element. The ending was kinda "hmmm".. otherwise it would definitely be 4 stars.

I rank Margaret Atwood among the best contemporary novelists but this was a disappointment. The premise is promising, but I've seen enough summaries to know how the story goes and nothing about it intrigues. I have read her for the joy of the language/voice alone, but not even that kept me engaged, ...

Actual Rating 1.5The Heart Goes Last had some really interesting story elements and plot points going for it.The main characters, Stan and Charmaine, are living in their car after economic collapse, with the money from Charmaine’s bar job their only form of income. They both used to have steady jobs...

I just hadn't had the chance so far. I will say that this one was definitely a different kind of book. Not sure if this is an us...

Charmaine and Stan are sick and tired of being homeless, unemployed and hungry. So much so, that they're willing to sign their whole lives away for jobs and a home, but at what price? Read my review of Margaret Atwood's latest speculative fiction book here. https://tcl-bookreviews.com/2015/09/19/pos...

A dystopian story of desperation, greed, for-profit prisons, and the sex lives of those caught up in it all.For Stan and Charmaine, the Positron Project seems like a gift from Heaven. A home of their own and guaranteed jobs, even if it's tempered with alternating months spent as prison inmates, is ...

The Heart Goes Last by Margaret Atwood This is awkward to admit, but I'm really not sure what to make of this book. The Heart Goes Last takes place in a near-future dystopia where the economy has collapsed and with it has fallen all societal order. Stan and Charmaine are forced to live out of th...

The Heart Goes Last by Margaret Atwood is a wild, dark, romp of a book. In this crazy world, Stan and Charmaine are down on their luck. They have done everything they should and followed every rule, but Stan lost his job and they ran out of money. So now they find themselves forced to sleep in their...
