I wasn't expecting to read any more Sherlock Holmes stories so soon after finishing The Adventures and Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes but I stumbled upon this, second hand, on a charity book stall. I'm glad I did though because it was very good.As well as this being one of his more well known stories, I...

Audiobook. Very good and interesting mystery. The narration was very well done too. I liked listening to the story rather than reading it since I tend to get lost and forget what happened in the written Sherlock Holmes books.

I get a strange feeling when reading Sherlock Holmes novels. The shock value or exoticism of the crimes is so tame by today's high standards, the attitudes of the main protagonists so irritatingly Victorian, and the language used so old-fashioned and stiff (for the most part) that I find myself wond...

I have read condensed versions of this book when my children were younger. However, reading Doyle's version was wonderful. The descriptions of the moor helped to create a mood of horror. The loneliness of the land, the dreariness of the stormy weather as well as Baskerville's house, the eerie and...

2.5/5I’ve always enjoyed the idea of Sherlock Holmes and have enjoyed the various interpretations of him in media (Guy Ritchie’s movies, House MD) but I’ve never actually read a Sherlock Holmes book. I decided it was time to change that. My first experience was a decent one. I got exactly what I was...

Arthur Conan Doyle wrote "Hound of the Baskervilles" eight years after he'd killed Holmes in an attempt to abandon what he thought of as bullshit pop writing and an escape to more serious historical fiction, none of which we give a shit about today. We're all familiar with the belated sequel (*coug...

This was my first Arthur Conan Doyle/Sherlock Holmes and I have to say I was just a tad disappointed. This is likely because while this was my first time reading, I've still had lots of exposure to Sherlock Holmes and his methods since I'm a BBC junkie. I can imagine these books would have been a ...

I am a big fan of any writer who is capable of creating powerful and memorable characters in literature. And Sir Arthur Conan Doyle is no exception. His work on other books may also be quality but it is Sherlock Holmes who will always be remembered. And for good reason. The man is brilliant, eccentr...

This is the final Sherlock novel for me to read, now with all four under my belt, I'm excited to say that this one was probably my favourite. The Hound of the Baskervilles has a mystery that edges on the supernatural as our Sherlock and Watson duo go up against a Hell dog in the bleak English countr...

A good and strong Holmes/Watson adventure out on the moors of Devonshire. Watson is a much more active participant in this tale of deceit, fear and supernatural superstition. I enjoyed the gloom and heavy feel of the land and how it became a larger than life character. I remembered in the end nothin...
