The best thing about this novel is that it has huge cinematographic potential; it belongs to that wonderful category that includes films like "Howards End", "Maurice", "The Remains of the Day" or "Gosford Park" (shamefully, I haven’t read any of the books). The writing in itself isn’t spectacular, ...
Great descriptions of family life in England and the ways loved ones can break our hearts. Only reason I didn't give it 4 stars was I felt it got bogged down sometimes switching between present day and the action. Entire book was basically a flashback. The ending however was totally worth the 468 pa...

"Last November I had a nightmare. It was 1924 and I was at Riverton again."This is the remembrances of Grace who was a former housemaid at Riverton. It was a wonderful book and I highly recommend it!
this was a wonderful read. great characterizations, funny, sad, mysterious...compelling to read and didn't want it to end. i loved the main character, grace. the house at riverton is the type of book you wish every book could be.
Loved this Gothic page turner about an old woman who is asked to recollect her days as a house maid at the grand estate of Riverton, where a famous scandal occurred during the 1920’s, by a young filmmaker.
