Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they're not coming to get you . . . There is a strange humming noise that seems not to have a source, which is tormenting the villagers of Nuthampstead, England, in 1989. To the Ellis family, recently moved from the valleys of Wales, it has a sinister significance. They don't like to talk about it. But Carys Ellis is only six, and she has to tell someone about the terrifying visitors to her room in the middle of the night, when the family would not and could not be roused. And that is only the beginning of Carys's plight. Her mother is a long-term sufferer of a number of mental health problems. Diagnosed with bipolar disorder, manic depression, and borderline disorder, she's a mess. And Carys seems to be heading the same way . . . Unless her encounters with beings from another dimension are real, as Carys sincerely believes they are. In which case, she is in the midst of a struggle not with her sanity but with events that could lead to the eradication of the human species. But then, she might just be a little crazy.
