This was a really sweet, romantic book. It's slow moving but kind of grabs you at the end. I liked also that I know most of the spots she talks about (Davis is about 1/2 hour from me).

There are few books I would call elegant - this is one of them.I was more than pleasantly surprised by the constructed simplicity of The Jane Austen Book Club. I had seen the movie - which was perfectly enjoyable - and had taken a look at the chick-lit cover, and thought I would be in for a very lig...

It now seemed for me the book club could have read books by any author,...

I have to say that there were a number of sentences and paragraphs in this book which I enjoyed tremendously. However, as a novel I don't think it hung together very well, and the connection to Austen was tenuous at best.

I remember reading "The Club Dumas" by What's His Name (too lazy to look it up) and thinking, "What the hell is going on?" This is because I was too lazy to read the books referred to by the obvious titular intertext. Thankfully, with this one, I have read the obvious titular intertexts, so I wasn't...

As much as I wanted to like this book, i had a bit of a hard time with it. I kept trying to keep up with the Austen references, but I wasn't that familiar with Jane Austen, though I have read all her books. i assumed that the author was mirroring the book club characters with Austen characters, but ...
