I enjoyed this book and the movie. Tricked my husband into watching the movie because he was in trouble. After 2 hours of women crying, babies dying, couples fighting and it's nowhere near done, he yelled out "How long is this movie?" Loved it! The book and the movie are very similar.

I love the intertwining of the mothers' stories with the daughters', the historical appearing in the contemporary. It fills the same place in my reading heart that [b:The Shell Seekers|37095|The Shell Seekers|Rosamunde Pilcher|http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/513G66367YL._SL75_.jpg|517040] doe...

My notes for this one say: light and poignant. Would make a good movie. As I recall, it did.
