So if you ever want to read about a fictional town in Virginia taking place after the Civil War with more characters you can shake a fist at, this is your book. If you want a streamlined story with characters that are not flat, and a plot that is not all over the place, this is not the book for you....
This is one of those books that despite recognizing some skillful and impressive writing, goes under the category of not-for-me. readable story but didn't quite grab my attention and I didn't really care or get involved in the characters. It did read like how my father tells stories all the same, wandering around and eventually getting to the point.
