I just love Jasper Fforde, his humor and his creativity. I'm always jealous of his world-building and wordplay. I wish I could be this clever. This is slightly more accessible than his Thursday Next books (which I love, but which always make me feel a little stupid because I don't catch all of the l...
I'm generally a big fan on Fforde, but this fell kind of flat. Which is not to say it wasn't good. It just wasn't as brilliant as some of his other books are.
I think it is one of my least favorite things to realize that I no longer enjoy reading books by an author I once liked very much. I thought the first 4 books (minus maybe the 3rd) of the Thursday Next series were great. They were funny, quirky, clever, and imaginative. They took place in a parallel...

I don't typically read a lot of fantasy. Dragons and the like? Just not my cup of tea. But Jasper Fforde is such a clever, engaging writer that I felt I had to pick this one up. Set in an alternate reality of Fforde's devising, this novel follows Jennifer Strange, an orphan who is indentured to an e...
As I hoped, this novel had a bit of a Diana Wynne Jones feel to it. It was a whimsical, tongue-in-cheek, hang-on-to-your-seat, magical joyride that never took itself too seriously. Romance wasn't a factor and I will definitely be reading the next in the series.
Jenny Strange is the manager of Kazam, a pseudo-company pseudo-family where magicians and wizards are hired out for odd jobs to get enough income to stay afloat. In a world where magic is slowly decaying to trickles of power and there is only one last dragon in the world, change is coming. And at th...
I thought this book would be better. Honestly, it shouldn't have been on the YA shelves in the library. It should have been in the Juvenile Fiction section. Just saying.I wanted to read this book because it's been a while since my last dragon book, but this book was really more about an alternative ...
I loved "The Eyre Affair," so I was anxious to see what Jasper Fforde could do with a YA book. The cover on my edition is so fun - love the Volkswagen (I had one at one time!) and mixture of greens. As it turns out, he did quite a bit. I'm going to review it from the perspective of someone famili...
