I know Alan Moore has done more "important" things like this, but he hasn't done anything that's this much fun. "But the movie sucked!" I know. Bummer.
LoEG 2 is still brilliant and all, but I was a little disappointed in how closely the plot adhered to Wells' War of the Worlds rather than going off on its own track. That may be part of the point though; for all of their powers and retentions the League does not accomplish all that much.
This book is sort of the culmination of a tendency in Alan Moore's work to layer references on top of references and deliver his own take on the work of past authors. Watchmen, Supreme, Lost Girls, and Neonomicon are all examples of this approach. LoEG is a fantastic story and some of Moore's best...
i think part of the reason this book didn't really wow me is cuz i've only read one of the classic books that these "gentlemen" come from. Dracula is the only one, so i found mina to be the most interesting character because i had a lot of background on her. i think if i read all the other novels an...
I enjoyed this book a good deal, but I think enjoyed the first a bit more, although for different reasons. What I really liked about this book was the development of the characters and their relationships. The reader definitely gained a lot more insight as to what they really thought of each other...
This is actually my first graphic novel and my first Alan Moore, and I have to say that I really enjoyed it. I wasn't sure that it would be my thing, but I thought it was really interesting. When I picked this book up, I was expecting something that was all action, but I definitely felt like there...
I am actually re-reading the series in preparation to read Black Dossier. I can't believe I did not add this volume before; I have the second volume added in here. So, I am going to reread it and then write my impressions from the second time around. I did like it the first time, so looking forward ...
I enjoyed the second outing of the League, but this one felt a little more like series of Victorian shout-outs, and maybe that's the point. The plot was a serious retread, something one could see coming a thousand miles away. Some people get redeemed, other people walk off in disgust. Meh. I love th...
My only experience with Alan Moore's work was through the movie adaptations and interviews when something new came out. He always completely disowned the film adaptations, and with good reason. My husband and I both watched the film version of this graphic novel, and both of us thought we'd fallen a...
