A charming story of love and hope, The Magician's Elephant was a delightful surprise. I can't recall who recommended it to me, but if I could remember, I'd thank them. I loved the writing, the descriptions, and most of all, the story of a little boy and love. Absolutely wonderful, and just begging t...

3.5 It is a lovely story, with the feel of the classic fable - I would highly recommend it as a read-aloud or along-with for ages six and up, although I highly enjoyed it on its own. It is a story of magic and love and hope and dreams.

A quaint children's story, well told. I would give it five stars, but I like my fiction a little more cerebral. For an innocent tear-jerker, though, it's good stuff. It was very good, just *this close* to great, but not quite there for me.

It's not as good Tale of Desperaux or Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane, but it's not as bad as Winn-Dixie. It's too bad that DiCamillo is a hit-and-miss writer, since the books that I liked are SO SO SO good.

The last book for me of 2009. A wonderful story filled with hope, longing, and of course, magic. This is a terrific book for children and adults and is destined to become a classic of children's literature.

Completely beautiful. After finishing In the Woods by Tana French, this book was a nice departure from its mood and a quick read. This book is filled with magic, wonder and inspiration.

A young boy named Peter was separated from sister when his parents died. The man who took him in says she died as well, but Peter doesn't believe that. Then Peter comes across a traveling gypsy who predicts some pretty crazy things: She says an elephant will lead him to his sister. Because of what t...
