I didn't hate this book, but I definitely didn't like it either. There were parts that were well written, but the majority of the book was very "meh". I struggled to make any connection to the characters or the story and slogged through most of the book. Here's how I would describe this book. Imagine...
I’ve had a tempestuous relationship with this series by Lev Grossman. The first book I started out liking--I loved the idea of a secret college for magicians in upstate New York--but in the end I rated The Magicians only 2 out of 5 stars, a bit harsh in retrospect because I read it straight through ...
Done~ Finally done! And this book is the first to be granted the honour (well... honour...) of being hated so much that it deserves a zero. Sorry, this book doesn't even deserve one bit, one fleck, one dot of stardust on it.So this review might turn out to be a bit chaotic, I am sorry for that. Firs...

There are many references to Harry Potter in this story, but make no mistake, Lev Grossman's The Magicians is far from the world of Hogwarts. The hate seems to come from comparing it to the book they wish it was, "grownup Harry Potter," heavy on the wonder. What they're missing (I think) is that the lack of wonder is pretty much the wh...
I have been meaning to read this book for a couple of years and only just got around to it, at this rate it will take several incarnations for me to finish my reading list. However, I am somewhat familiar with Lev Grossman’s writing, I have read many of his articles for Time magazine, and admired hi...

I almost didn't pick up this book because of the bad reviews. But I am really glad I did.The Magicians is often described as "Harry Potter for adults", and that probably gives people wrong expectations about it. Sure, the similarities are many (and intentional): there's a magical school, a wizard bo...
