I liked reading this, though it's not really about a man who loves books too much, but rather is about The Man Who Couldn't or Wouldn't Stop Stealing Something. If that "something" weren't books, but, say, pipe cleaners or cashews, it wouldn't be much of a story. Instead, it would be an episode of H...
This was a really enjoyable read. It really forces one to think about the difference between book lovers and readers. It was interesting to see how little the legal world does to book thieves and even to start to understand their thought processes.
I love all things "book", so there was more then a fair chance that I was going to love a book about books and the people who collect them! This is the story of John Gilkey, a book klepto and Ken Sanders a rare book collector and bibliodick, that makes it his life story to capture Gilkey.
A lovely good as new hardback - thank you Wanda.xxAt one end of my desk sits a nearly four-hundred-year-old book cloaked in a tan linen sack and a good deal of mystery. The true crime story of John Gilkey and his compulsion to steal rare and valuable books is not my definition of book-love. At all. ...
I loved this one! While parts of it seemed a bit disjointed and repetitive, I found myself not being able to put it down! As a person who loves books, any books, not just rare books, it is right up my alley! Gilkey is one strange character! He manages to steal credit card numbers from his part time ...
Interesting look into the world of rare books and book thieves. Author kept me engaged while I was reading but I was able to put it down to attend to other things without regret.
"An entire book about the love of books, The Man Who Loved Books Too Much is equal parts ode to books, specifically rare books, and insight into one man's psyche. Mr. Gilkey and Mr. Sanders make for interesting, albeit somewhat stilted, reading. It is written about a love of books driving one's ac...
John Gilkey is a book lover like none I have ever heard of before. In all honesty, his love actually more of an obsession than anything. And his story really made me question what it is to be a book lover. Is it an obsession? A psychological need to possess these books? As I read this novel, it real...
The sub title on the book is The True Story of a Thief, a Detective, and a World of Literary Obsession. The book definitely lives up to its title. The true story of “bibliodick” Ken Sander, an antique book collector/seller, the author Allison Hoover Bartlett and the book thief John Gilkey. Interesti...
I'm so happy I won this book on Goodreads. The title alone was enough to hook me, I mean how can you love books too much?! Well apparently you can and John Gilkey was tremendously good at it. I've always wanted to collect books thanks to Beauty and the Beast, and this was right up my alley. For someo...
