On a winter night in 1964, Dr. David Henry is forced by a blizzard to deliver his own twins. His son, born first, is perfectly healthy. Yet when his daughter is born, he sees immediately that she has Down's Syndrome. Rationalizing it as a need to protect Norah, his wife, he makes a split-second decision that will alter all of their lives forever. He asks his nurse to take the baby away to an institution and never to reveal the secret.A brilliantly crafted, stunning debut, The Memory Keeper's Daughter explores the way life takes unexpected turns, and how the mysterious ties that hold a family together help us survive the heartache that occurs when long-buried secrets burst into the open.

I was undecided about giving this book a 3 or 4 star rating. It's a pretty depressing story all the way through but it's still a pretty good story. It didn't blow me away, but it was still a good book.I want to watch the movie now to see how it compares.

Terribly sad... but I couldn't put it down. Life just plain sucks! It would be a typical chick book but I am reluctant to label it as such since I got more emotional then I usually do over these types of 'Oprah book club' books.
