It took me about seven months to finish this book. I listened to it at night on Kindle via text-to-speech. "The Moonstone" is a mystery involving the theft of an enormous Indian diamond called The Moonstone which is fated to be cursed. The mystery is who stole it the night of Miss Rachel Verinder's ...

Mr. Edgar Allen Poe and Mr. Conan Doyle have been awarded an honour they do not deserve. The First Mystery Novel Trophy belongs to none other than Mr. Wilkie Collins. Truly a delightful tale, I restrict it to three stars only because the easy, meandering pace tested the limits of my impatience. In all other respects I enjoyed the book, loved and hated characters as intended, and savoured the complex interaction of differing narrative viewpoints.

Postponed rather than abandoned. I was listening to an audiobook version from Librivox, and unfortunately had difficulties understanding some of the narrators. Next time I'd better attempt it as an ebook instead.

There are some annoying parts, but it is a great fun to read on the overall. Collins is a hell of a storyteller for sure.
