Nan has a tricky relationship with her employer, Mrs X.
A non-existent relationship with Mr X.
But she loves their little boy to pieces.

In between looking after four-year-old Grayer and running a thousand errands for Mrs X, his rich, uptight Manhattanite mohter, Nan is trying to have a life. There's college, shopping, her friends, her cat George. And the gorgeous Harvard boy from the sixth floor...

But the X family's dramas keep intruding - visits from Mr X's predatory mistress, catastrophic family outings and, as a final straw, the case of the marriage-destroying panties. As Divorce looms, Nan realises how attached she's become to the Xs' unloved son - and how nannying has become more than just a job.

Funny, touching and true-to-life, The Nanny Diaries is a modern-day Mary Poppins story - with attitude.

I like this book about as much as i like The Devil Wears Prada. Maybe a little bit more. They are very similar. I really came to care a lot about 4-year-old Grayer and it made me sad for real kids like him. (Review written on August 21, 2014.)

4.0 The Nanny Diaries (Nanny #1) by Emma McLaughlin, Nicola Kraus
Wanted: One young woman to take care of four-year-old boy. Must be cheerful, enthusiastic and selfless--bordering on masochistic. Must relish sixteen-hour shifts with a deliberately nap-deprived preschooler. Must love getting thrown up on, literally and figuratively, by everyone in his family. Must ...

2.0 The Nanny Diaries: A Novel
I used to read a few pages of this whenever S and I went to Value Village because there was always a copy there...unfortunately Value Village closed so I had to finish it elsewhere. Meh writing, subject matter is kinda like watching a train wreck...you can't look away. Quick light read.
