I have nothing new to add, of course. Homer sings for our time too- what more is there? Gods and heroes and regular humans all jumbled up together and humanity is unchanged down all the years. This translation is lovely, by turns sonorous and stirring but always compelling.
I adored this when I was little. So, it didn't particularly surprise me when my sister-in-law, Sarah grumbled to me 'You Depasquales'. '?' 'The other day James was whining to me that I had to read this this picture book because he couldn't.' James is maybe six years old and her son, my nephew. 'And ...
"Okay, so here's what happened. I went out after work with the guys, we went to a perfectly nice bar, this chick was hitting on me but I totally brushed her off. Anyway we ended up getting pretty wrecked, and we might have smoked something in the bathroom, I'm not totally clear on that part, and t...
Another relic of my high-school days, but unlike others of the must-read ilk I quite liked this one.I guess it's also due to the doubts about its authorship. Did Homer really tell/write this or is it a figment of many imaginations? I really don't care, this is a great book, a bit long and at times d...

I've read this classic a number of times. Most "recently" was for Mythology and Parageography at university. I always enjoy mythology, and I'm not a great judge of translations or anything, but I do better reading this outloud to myself.I love Odysseus and his travels. I should read it more often...
This is a book I will never forget because it is a pivotal book in my life. When I was 14, a freshman in high school, this is one of the books assigned. The length of the book didn't scare me because I love long books. I liked it when it lasted a long time. I avoided short books because my paren...
