I had hoped this would be a really incredible gut-wrencher, heartbreaker of a book, but I feel like it didn't really live up to the potential it had. Like it was a little scattered and unfocused, so instead of showing us exactly what we should see, we are instead shown the things that lie around the...

One of my best friends sent me a text from abroad, telling me that I absolutely must read this book so that her and I could discuss it. Armed with a birthday gift card, I headed into Chapters, with a few items on my to-buy list. I had NO idea what the premise of the book was, nor had I researched ...

All the time I was reading this book; I was thinking this is a horrible story - very sad. I put it down. Then I caught the evening news this past weekend regarding an uprising in Egypt. And, I thought maybe I will pick it back up and continue reading. It didn't get any less tragic, but I finishe...

I'm having a hard time articulating what I want to say about this book. I wouldn...

For the most part, I loved this book. I thought the chapters told from Little Bee's perspective were absolutely perfect. The chapters told from Sarah's perspective had me going back and forth. It was one of those things where I wanted to groan and roll my eyes at some of the first world problems tha...

Utterly depressing yet riveting read. Not sure it went fast because I wanted to learn what happens, or to make it stop. People in various states of loneliness and entrapment, some through their own doing, some because of the will of others.

I wanted to like this book, I really did...it seemed to have so much promise. The story of a Nigerian refugee who ends up in England and at the house of the woman who saved her life by giving up her finger a few years previously and yet, it just didn't live up to the hype.I initially picked it up a...
