I had to read this in high school and really enjoyed it. I found it fast paced and engrossing. This surprised me given the storyline, as this, even back then, wasn't "my type of book."
I can appreciate its groundbreaking qualities, but what was groundbreaking in the '60s isn't anymore, and there are far too many places where the author's teenagerness shows a bit embarrassingly. Doesn't quite hold up under today's standards for YA literature, in my opinion.

I like how the story was written by a young author who really knew what she was writing about--she based it partly on the experiences of her f...
