This was my first experience with Oscar Wilde outside of a classroom and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Well, most of it. Chapter eleven did its level best to shrivel my eyes out of my sockets with its extreme dryness, but the rest of it was pretty darn good. I went in expecting a horrid Gothic tale, but ...

I give it 3.5 stars. I had high expectations of this book, because of several people telling me how much they like it. But not because it's bad, but because his other stuff is so dang good :) I really love his writing style. It's so very simple, almos...

“He was always late on principle, his principle being that punctuality is the thief of time.”"We praise the banker that we may overdraw our account, and find good qualities in the highwayman in the hope that he may spare our pockets. I mean everything that I have said. I have the greatest contempt f...

At first I thought the Cartesian dualism of the book, dividing body and soul, was really going to bug me. But then I was intrigued by how the premise was actually a fascinating exploration the mind-body connection. Wilde did a great job of upping the stakes, upping the tension, upping the misery f...

Now this was an odd- ball. First I would like to say that, for me, books written in the 1800s are quite "difficult" to get through. To me the language and style is too drawn out and I always feel like yelling to the author "Dude, get to the point!". The Picture of Dorian Grey was no different to me....
