Great book. The difference in the characters' worlds before and after World War I was so extreme. How the people were no innocent in the beginnng compared to the way they became so jaded. Wonderful read.

I didn't feel much sympathy for any of the characters. Maugham himself came across as rather pompous and condescending. His views on women were unpleasant. There are a number of philosophical speeches that were less than interesting. The description, particularly of the people was repetitious. ...

I like Bill Murray, but after seeing the film version starring him, I thought I'd better read the book to see what it was really like. Well, it didn't have anyone barking like a seal, so that's a plus. I think it's time for a re-read, because I can't remember anything else really.
