My last status update on this book may have confused a great deal of those following along with me. The four-out-of-five star rating was probably even more of a shocker for those of you watching me rant and rave, practically frothing and foaming at the mouth with madness as I slung curses like weapo...

The Red Badge of courage is pretty impressive. Ellison says its an allegory and I'm inclined to agree. But even if it isn't, it is quite an effective piece of writing that and it's shocking that Crane was born after the Civil War. I never would have guessed that had I not already known it. "The ...

Written in 1895, The Red Badge Of Courage tells the story of Henry Fleming, a young man who joins the Union army during the American Civil War. Before his first engagement he suffers great anxiety about how he will acquit himself in the heat of battle. When the moment comes he quickly becomes convin...

I'll keep in mind that this was required reading as I write this. This book was about two battles in two days. As the battles were featured, we followed the main character something-Flemming, otherwise known as "the youth". I hated that part of the book, how the author used the main character's name ...

This novel is basically about a young man who goes to war. Written by an author who had never experienced war but believed he could write a better war novel than was currently available. If history is any indication - he did as the book is a classic (which is why I read it).I enjoyed this tale! I wo...

If I had had any illusions about the ugliness and horror of war, its cruelty and senselessness, they would have been shattered after reading Crane's classic. However, I had none and found it very depressing and not at all inspiring. The main character was difficult to emphasize with, even though one...

I hated this book. There wasn't anything about it denoting courage. For me, it was all a lie, a coward's lie. I was disgusted with this book. I have no idea why my English teachers would have thought I'd like this story. They were dead wrong and they didn't understand me at all.

Beloved staple of English classes because it's short. Inexperienced kid gets wounded being cowardly in battle, and then becomes patriotically brave. Oh, the irony.Bonus star added for good writing of confusion in battle.
