Got better at the end, but the whole story was a little silly. I'll keep reading the series--I have to admit the characters started to grow on me. I'll review the series when I've finished it.And finished . . .The Kane Chronicles don't need much of a review. They aren't going to go down in litera...

I really enjoyed this story. I loved the Egyptian mythology, it was a nice change from all the Greek stuff out there. The cast of character was wonderful. I loved the mixture of major and minor gods. Sadie and Carter are amazing. I just can't get enough of their snarky sibling relationship. They mus...

Rating this book in relation to its target audience, I think it is very well done. The book's strength is really in its structure and its mythological knowledge. I felt the characters were average.I felt there was a lot of allegory in this novel. The son born of the bloodline of a king must sacri...

Edit: I'm going to point out that this book is probably not worthy of the one-star rating I gave it. If I'd read it when I was eight years old and I never heard of Percy Jackson, I probably would have enjoyed it . . . but I hate it more than I should, because I loved Percy Jackson and the Olympians....

Thank goodnessThat's all I can say after trying to read the Heroes of Olympus series where it seemed that everything that made Rick Riordan successful was missing. In the first book of the Kane Chronicles, Rick Riordan reaffirms my love for what he is able to do. He can tell a good story with humor ...

It pains me to put this on the abandoned shelf since I LOVED Percy Jackson. This one was just too long and I got bored. :( Maybe I'll come back to it!

A fun, whimsical children's novel that is let down in that it does not measure up to Rick Riordan's much finer work with the world of Greek and Roman demigods. As such it is not the book itself that is average but rather it feels like it should be at a higher The Lightning Thief type of standard.I d...

I really enjoyed this - while it's a young adult/childrens book, it's also just a good read. There are certainly some things to think about, like the possible choice between saving the world and saving someone you love, but not in a desperate, dark sort of way. I also got the feeling that I was le...

I was a bit dissapointed when reading this book. I love love LOVE Rick Riordan and Percy Jackson and the Olympians is one of my favourite series ever. On top of that, I was an Egypt freak growing up. So naturally I was really excited when I got this book. The plot and the writing, of course, are amaz...
