The Secret Adversary (Tommy and Tuppence, #1) by Agatha Christie The plot may be unrealistic, the mystery transparent, and the characters stereotyped, but I love this book. To me, it succeeds perfectly, if unintentionally, at capturing the mood of the post-WWI period, including its ugly underside: ...
I read this book out of two rather joyless motives: researching the Whodunit genre and the Second Novel. Another reason for reading was more whimsical: having seen plenty of Agatha Christie on screen, I'd never actually sat down and finished one of her tomes. And sit down I did, getting through the ...
This was the first of the Tommy and Tuppence books. It's pretty weak. It reads like a Hardy Boys book, full of adventure, danger, and oodles of implausibility. The characters do things rational people wouldn't do. I dunno, it was sort of cute in a way, but I expect something better plotted and writt...
Agatha Christie is an amazing mystery writer. I loved this book. It's a Tommy and Tuppence book. It's full of interesting twists and characters. Sometimes it got a little confusing but you can't help get completely involved in the mystery of Jane Finn. Loved it -- highly recommended.
I was 10 pages into this book when I almost quit reading it. It wasn't at all what I expected. Granted, I haven't read many of Agatha Christie's books – one Miss Marple and one Poirot, I think – but what I've read was enough to make me at least expect a mystery starring an interesting detective/amat...
I have read a number of the Tommy and Tuppence mysteries, but somehow missed out on the first one!In this tale, a very young Tommy and Tuppence are looking for work in post-WWI London and decide that they will go looking for adventure that will pay.It finds them in spades as they look for a young wo...
This is the first Tommy and Tuppence novel, and it's one of Agatha Christie's series which marks a departure from Poirot's "little grey cells" and Miss Marple's fluffy English village connections. Granted, I love Miss Marple, but I also loved They Came to Baghdad, which was an espionage mystery abou...
Even though the secret adversary is fairly obvious from early on, I loved the relationship between the two main characters and I loved the pace the book has. Four stars!
