I was really looking forward to The Shining Girls, a good mystery is always fun. Plus this included time travel? Yes, please. But I was decidedly disappointed that the time travel is treated only as a mediocre gimmick that barely gets any attention at all. The writing is bland and the characters lar...
Time-traveling serial killer is tracked by the one woman who survived the attack. Plucky heroine can’t believe her own crazy suspicions. Nail-biting! Somehow, Lauren Beukes managed to put a new, fascinating spin on murder mysteries, and I just fell for it! During the Great Depression, Harper finds...
Not for the faint of heart (or stomach), The Shining Girls is less about time travel, and more about the tenacity and fragility of life in the face of violence during all times. Beukes is a master story-teller, and created characters that will stick with me for years to come. However, while the writ...

I know a lot of people are excited by the idea of a time-travelling serial killer, but for some reason this doesn...
