I was really looking forward to The Shining Girls, a good mystery is always fun. Plus this included time travel? Yes, please. But I was decidedly disappointed that the time travel is treated only as a mediocre gimmick that barely gets any attention at all. The writing is bland and the characters lar...

Time-traveling serial killer is tracked by the one woman who survived the attack. Plucky heroine can’t believe her own crazy suspicions. Nail-biting! Somehow, Lauren Beukes managed to put a new, fascinating spin on murder mysteries, and I just fell for it! During the Great Depression, Harper finds...

Not for the faint of heart (or stomach), The Shining Girls is less about time travel, and more about the tenacity and fragility of life in the face of violence during all times. Beukes is a master story-teller, and created characters that will stick with me for years to come. However, while the writ...

I’m writing this review for [a:Wm Morris|5311981|Wm Morris|https://d202m5krfqbpi5.cloudfront.net/authors/1320610576p2/5311981.jpg], who said he wanted to know what I thought of this book, so if I happen to say anything that you find interesting, be sure to thank him. Such a great book! Really creative and original premise. Kirby is an outcast that you root for from the beginning. This book grabbed me on page one and never let go. Best book I've read so far in 2013.

He remembers doing it. He has no recollection of doing it. One of these things must be true. Wow, this was so different. I was expecting something similar to Zoo City, which was an urban fantasy. But I should have known to expect the unexpected from Lauren Beukes. The shining girls is a SF Thriller ...

This is an entertaining read, but I really don't think it lives up to the hype. I loved Beukes' first two novels, so I was really looking forward to this before I even read the synopsis. I know a lot of people are excited by the idea of a time-travelling serial killer, but for some reason this doesn...
