It's good that I started with the collection of short stories, because I don't think Sherlock Holmes fits in novels—maybe with the exception of The Hound of the Baskervilles. Little like I think Jeremy Brett's television series is superior to any film lenght adaptation of Conan Doyle's work. There...

I recently re-read this book in auido form. The audible edition was being offered free if you brought the free version on kindle. Always nice to visit with Sherlock. Audio version is a little choppy, but the narration is good. Note-this is still free via get the kindle book free and pick this ...

The Sign of Four (1890) was the second volume in the Sherlock Holmes series, written by Arthur Conan Doyle three years after the first. So, one could not say that the demand for a sequel was overwhelming. Curiously enough, at the evening party the offer to publish such a sequel was made to Conan Doy...

For me this second Sherlock Holmes novel is what defines a classic. By no means is Doyle the master stylist of a Thomas Hardy or Oscar Wilde, and I'm not going to claim there are profound insights into the human condition, but this novel wears its age very lightly indeed. Quite good adventure tale and mystery set in London and India. The story is more about the background of the mystery rather than about getting to know much more about Sherlock Holmes or Dr. Watson, but it was well told.

The Sign of The Four will be used in the third series of BBC Sherlock as The Sign of Three. I'm quite thrilled that for once I have read the book before they used it, and I will be able to look for everything they used form the book. I can't wait till the third series start!I liked reading this book...

This is the fourth Sherlock book I've read and my least favourite so far. The plot is getting a little repetitive, which I guess these books are, but the mystery in this story wasn't so great. Plus Watson was irritating. Don't get me wrong, it's still good writing, just not my favourite.

This is the second of the Sherlock Holmes' canon, a short novel, like the first book, A Study in Scarlet. In this one, Holmes and Watson help a young woman, who might have been defrauded out of an inheritance. Watson falls in love and ends up marrying the young woman, although ever after, it seems, ...

Another great adventure - murder by poison dart, a hidden treasure, and one of the criminals actually has a wooden leg! A triumph for Holmes and a romance for Dr. Watson. This book was better constructed than A Study in Scarlet, with the "explanation" limited to a chapter near the end which was bett...
