The Song of Achilles is a beautifully written account of the life and doom of Achilles from the perspective of his best friend, Patroclus. Miller combines material from Homer's Iliad and Odyssey, as well as Vergil's Aeneid, to tell what is essentially a love story. This telling is from the perspecti...

Like so many of the people that have read this book, I absolutely loved it. Even though I'm not a huge mythology nerd, I found myself immersed in this world and completely in love with the story. I knew enough about Greek mythology to recognize most of the characters and know the important character...

Finally not a straight-washed version of Achille and Patroclus story. The characters are moving, the story is wonderful, giving insight on all Achilles's life before Troy and his fall, the relationship is truly moving ('k I shed a tear I admit... ok lots.). I can't say how happy I am to finally have...

It is a different reading a book where you know all of the characters and their fates from the start. You read about their happiness, loves and sadness knowing in the back of your mind what is to come. And with a story like Achilles and Patroclus...it just makes it extra sad. Every turn of the pa...

A well done retelling. Romance, war, and politics all told with just enough nuance to not make it salacious or cumbersome. Everything the movie Troy should have been but failed.

Four stars for pulling off the miraculous feat of not making me hate Achilles. Agamemnon is still a jerk (naturally) but even he's a peach compared to Pyrrhus.
