I don't know if he originated the style or not but it's the earliest I've seen of it, there are a few inconsistencies but otherwise it's good.

As a modern reader, I found _Werther_ a bit of a slog. It's full of flowery, over-the-top language that induced some eye-rolling. Additionally, you can blame Goethe for the whiny emo-boys whose only mode of art-making seems to be self-indulgent, navel-gazing confessionals. Yes, I blame Goethe. Howe...

So who am I to judge Goethe's most famous work?Yep, right.Utterly romantic, utterly pastoral and oh, yes! utterly lamentable. Again, it came too late in my life.
