There is not much to say about this book. I loved everything about it except the cover which looks like it was designed for a religious tract. The only explanation I can come up with for this dull cover is a misplaced sense of irony. "The Storied Life Of A. J. Fikry" tells of how a bereaved books...
I am so conflicted about this book. On the one hand, if you are a reader there is much to love here. There are little reviews or comments about books that start each chapter, there are discussions about tastes, there is a subtle (very) point about women's fiction just being fiction. There is even a ...
I enjoyed reading this one and it had everything to be a book I LOVE, but it somehow fell a bit short. Still, it was a good read and I'm glad I picked it up. Four stars!
A very good story. There are no bad people in this short novel. Just a story about a man who owns a bookstore and those he is influenced by and those he influences over the span of about 20 years.
What a wonderful, delightful book! I loved A.J. He reminded me of the old man in Disney's UP. He was half the old man's age but just as crotchety and curmudgeonly. When A.J. adopts Mimi, a baby abandoned in his bookstore, he begins to soften. I loved how he recommended books for her along with his o...
Started and finished this one on the first leg of my trip; the silver lining to 8 hour plane trips is the ability to get through books. Overall, I enjoyed the book, especially once I got used to the third person present tense narrative. It wasn't quite what I was expecting: the summary at the bac...

I was somewhere in my gradeschool years, and Elsewhere was one of the hyped new releases that our librarian featured in a book talk. This was in 2007 – over 7 years ago – and I still find ...
This book is just delightful (not a word I use often, but well-earned)! I couldn't stop smiling, even as I was crying at some points. I never thought I'd be so emotional over this book, but I can't stop myself from gushing about it to everyone around me. I can't even pinpoint exactly what sold t...
THE STORIED LIFE OF A.J. FIKRY, BY GABRIELLE ZEVINThis was another one from Goodreads' list of the best books of 2014. It's more like it, definitely better than Apolonia, but it still didn't quite work for me. I don't mean it's bad, by all its elements, it's actually a very good book, it's just not ...
