at first I was really into this and then it dragged. June grows during the novel, but so much of her internal thoughts are "I LIVE FOR ART I LOVE ENKI GIL IS MY FRIEND I HATE MY MOTHER" eventually I thought that June doth protest too much about living for art. There are definitely some cool ideas.

I wasnt able to finish the book because I was disappointed in the book. I must adm...

While not free of the tropes of the genre, this book manages to rise above them, striking a mood that is reminiscent of A Wizard of Earthsea, while being utterly different in so many respects. June, the protagonist, lives in a post-apocalyptic matriarchy, situated in Brazil. She is a talented art...
